Comment: | Acanthamoeba castellanii is commonly isolated from terrestrial and aquatic environments. This organism forms a thick-walled cyst which is resistant to heat, dessication, and disinfectants. Acanthamoeba castellanii is an opportunistic pathogen that can cause a severe encephalitis in immunocompromised patients, and keratitis in contact lens wearers. |
