Comment: | Ajellomyces capsulatus is the causative agent of histoplasmosis, an infection that chiefly affects the lungs but occasionally spreads to other organs. Ajellomyces capsulatus is a dimorphic fungus, existing as a saprophytic mycelial form in the soil and as a pathogenic yeast form in the lungs of its host. |
