Synonym:Fusarium sporotrichiella var. sporotrichiodes (obsolete)
Comment:The filamentous fungus Fusarium sporotrichioides is a contaminant of cereal grains, such as wheat and maize. It produces trichothecenes, notably T-2 toxin, which are potent inhibitors of eukaryotic protein synthesis. Fusarium sporotrichioides is a significant agricultural problem due to the harmful effects of T-2 toxin on humans and animals who consume contaminated food.
